Novo Nordisk dominates the GLP-1 category by molecule. Semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy, Rybelsus) and liraglutide (Saxenda, Victoza) form the largest GLP-1 portfolio.
Semaglutide is the dominant GLP-1 in volume. Ozempic (weekly injection, T2D) launched 2017; Wegovy (weekly injection, weight loss) launched 2021; Rybelsus (oral, T2D) launched 2019. Saxenda (daily liraglutide, weight loss) is the older generation, increasingly displaced by Wegovy. Victoza (daily liraglutide, T2D) lost market share to weekly competitors.
CagriSema (cagrilintide + semaglutide) is the lead next-generation candidate, combining amylin analog with GLP-1 agonist. REDEFINE-1 Phase 3 readout 2024 showed ~22.7% weight loss at 68 weeks. Approval expected 2026-2027. Oral semaglutide for weight loss (separate Phase 3) shows trial completion 2026.
